Use Metro Tel Toner: From "Known Manhole" to positively ID "Unknown Manhole" cable as a match. If tone can not be verified - STOP ALL WORK ON CABLE - CALL SUPERVISOR

IF TONE VERIFIED, MARK "UNKNOWN" CABLE WITH PAINT, TONE AGAIN TO VERIFY AFTER PAINT

7 Cable Air Pressure? Air Pressure on Cable? (Y or N), Check only if there is an air valve, use C gauge, Record Pounds. IF AIR FOUND STOP WORK ON CABLE - CALL SUPERVISOR. DO NOT OPEN!
8 Cut Sheath Ring "Unknown" Cable SHEATH RING CUT MUST BE 12" IN LENGTH
9 Record Cable Insulation Type & Gauge

"Unknown" Cable Insulation Type (PIC, PAP, GEL), Both Techs Record Information

"Unknown" Cable Gauge, Both Techs Record Information.

10 Tone Single Pair of "Unknown" Cable Use I&M Toner; Successfully tone and identify pair to known location (Y or N) , IF PAIR CONNECTION CAN NOT BE VERIFIED - STOP ALL WORK ON CABLE - CALL SUPERVISOR
11 Electrically Test Pair Between "Known/Unknown"

Use an open/short method to verify pair connection between "Known & Unknown" locations. Must confirm 3 separate open/short connections to validate a Connection. Establish Talk Path if Possible.

IF PAIR OPEN/SHORT TEST FAILS: GO TO STEP #12

12 Ground Short Sheath Shield

Using an open/ground method between pair & sheath Shield, verify cable sheath connection between "Known & Unknown" locations. Must confirm 3 separate open/ground tests to validate connection.

IF PAIR/GROUND SHEATH OPEN/GROUND FAILS, STOP ALL WORK ON CABLE - CALL SUPERVISOR

13 Tape/Tag Cables Tag both Cable ends: (1) GP Cable # - Sec # (2) Telco Cable #, if available (3) Pair Count/Gauge.
14 Cut "Unknown Manhole" Cable CABLE CUT MUST BE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE 12" SHEATH RING CUT
15 Remove Splice Case If Splice case cannot be removed, code task NR (Not Removed)
16 Final Inspection Final visual inspection and Housekeeping; Man Hole to be returned to original condition
